A Crown for the Second-Born
Three dawns before his sister's coronation, sixteen-year-old Elian finds their mother's name scratched
Three dawns before his sister's coronation, sixteen-year-old Elian finds their mother's name scratched inside the crown.
In the canal kingdom of Vey, the crown is supposed to preserve peace. Each year, it makes the public forget one injustice, leaving the palace polished and the city unsure of what it has lost. When Nima, a sharp-tongued courier from the supposedly hostile marsh, arrives with proof that Elian's missing sister fled by choice, he is pulled into salt-sealed records, flooded archives, and a wary alliance that begins to feel like more.
With coronation closing in, Elian must decide whether to protect the order that raised him or expose the truth it was built to erase. But breaking the crown could destroy what remains of thousands of memories. This fast, romantic YA fantasy follows a reluctant heir facing family betrayal, public danger, and a choice no one can make for him. He will need a map no council can control and people willing to remember together.

Three dawns before coronation, the crown was heavier than it looked.
Elian knew because he had measured the distance from its velvet stand to the coronation dock three times that morning, and on the third trip the Master of Ceremonies had made him lift it while the attendants argued over banners. The gold band sat across his palms like a river stone that had learned to be cruel. Its points caught the gray light from the high windows. Below them, the palace canals struck softly against their gates.
"Not there," Master Oren said. "The king's line enters from the east bridge."
