The public launch at Sol's Charleston inlet is chained shut just as storm season starts to press in. The closure strands charter workers, weakens emergency access, and leaves Sol with one dangerous advantage: Sol knows the water better than the people who wrote the notice.

When a marina dredging project appears to have changed the channel, Sol starts collecting proof. But local knowledge is not enough. To challenge a polished safety story, Sol must work with Jalen, the friend Sol has pushed away, and Mara, a wealthy sailing rival whose access comes with its own price.

With outer storm bands moving closer, they build a record from charts, work logs, witness accounts, and a narrow tide window. No One Owns the Tide is a contemporary YA story about friendship, class, courage, and what changes when knowledge is shared before the water rises.

Before bicycle reached gate, Sol checked tide clock on cracked phone screen. Low water had another forty-seven minutes. Enough time for county worker to make closure look final, not enough time for Sol to stop noticing everything wrong with it.

On fence, notice corners lifted in wet breeze. Chain was new. Ramp beneath it was not.

At low water, county launch looked like somebody had taken a bite out of morning.
