The Barber Shop Book
In a Philadelphia barbershop, people talk when they have nowhere else to put the truth.
Hannelore Dean has built her business on that trust. She remembers the details that matter: a sick parent, a new lease, a hard month. Then a client receives a small-business loan denial that repeats a worry he voiced only in her chair. Another denial follows. Then another.
Someone is turning private shop talk into lender risk language.
With her former husband, a wary barber, and the clients being squeezed out, Hannelore follows the ordinary records around her: appointment books, Wi-Fi logs, tablet settings, and the exact phrases hidden inside official letters. The trail leads to a polished business-improvement director who sees neighborhood lives as data and struggling storefronts as opportunities.
To stop him, Hannelore must make the evidence public without betraying the people she is trying to protect.
The Barber Shop Book is a sharp, neighborhood-grounded small-business crime thriller about trust, surveillance, and the cost of making a community legible to the wrong people.

The first snow of the year had not amounted to anything, but it had left the curb outside Dean's Barber Shop looking dusted in gray flour. By nine, the wet had turned to grit beneath the tires on Haverford Avenue. The striped pole in the window kept turning anyway, red and blue making slow clean loops against the weather.
Hannelore Dean held Malik Turner's head steady with two fingers at his temple and lifted the clippers away from his fade.
"You want the line softer at the corner?"
