Monday, August 5, began with the ordinary preparation of Room 214. Yvette Halloway straightened vocabulary packets, tested the dry-erase marker, and placed the paper sign-in sheet on the corner of her desk. A faint crease crossed the first page where someone had leaned too hard the week before.
She liked that kind of evidence. It had no interest in looking polished. It recorded pressure without argument.
