A Season of Open Doors
When seventeen-year-old Jada Patel finds identical inspection dates on relocation notices at her Phoenix transitional-housing building, she wants to believe the paperwork is only a mistake. Then a younger neighbor tells her no inspector ever came, and a hot, crowded hallway starts filling with families who have been told to pack.
Jada knows how to make lists, meet deadlines, and keep trouble from spilling into the next room. What she does not know is how to protect her mother, whose temporary maintenance job may be tied to the same plan pushing residents out. With her senior year, community-college application, and thirty-day deadline closing in, Jada must decide how much truth she can carry in public.
As notices, repair logs, photos, and witness accounts begin to connect, Jada and her neighbors build something management did not expect: a coalition willing to make the building's hidden damage visible. This contemporary YA story of friendship, family strain, and hard-won belonging asks what Jada will risk before the deadline closes and the doors start opening without her.

This record is not a current verification of the book’s rights. The scope above describes the recorded review; current book information may have changed.
Manuscripts and inventory fingerprints identify supporting files. Confirmation of the provider, work version, and documents establishing publishing rights is required before a current rights verification can be issued.
A file inventory identifies recorded materials; it does not establish ownership by itself. No fixed contractual expiration describes the agreement’s duration, subject to statutory copyright terms.
Supporting documents remain private. For a record check, correction or rights dispute, contact [email protected] and quote the record ID.

Duplicate Dates
By seven-thirty, lobby mail had already acquired its daily personality: coupons curled by heat, official envelopes stiff with bad news, and a pizza flyer stuck to somebody's wet grocery receipt.
Jada Patel sat behind the folding table under the broken wall clock, sorting stacks by unit number. The old hotel had been painted a color management called desert linen. In morning light it looked like a tooth that had given up.
She slid a relocation notice into the pile for 218, then stopped.
