A Different Kind of Dare

Mae Chen has spent graduation week doing what she does best: noticing the rules everyone else pretends not to see. At her Columbus high school, a popular dare account turns awkward moments into entertainment, and keeping quiet is usually the safest way to avoid becoming part of the show. Then the final dare names Mae. She is supposed to kiss Theo Mercer, the admired senior everyone treats like a prize, at the graduation carnival. Refusing could make her the joke. Going along could turn a real feeling into content for strangers. As edited clips, hallway rumors, and a fracture with her best friend tighten the pressure, Mae discovers that the game survives because nobody knows how to say no without paying for it. To change the rules, she will have to risk being seen, ask people what they actually want, and decide whether honesty can be its own kind of daring.
