Scour Depth
At dawn on the Thursday before Memorial Day, bridge inspector Teresa Beltran finds a fourteen-foot scour pocket hollowing out Pier 4 of the Townsend Inlet Causeway. The county needs the route open for holiday traffic. Teresa needs a rated marine barge, a commercial diver, and enough time to prove the bridge is failing before the next tide and the next loaded coach.
The barge belongs to Reid Kearney, the diver whose certification Teresa suspended fourteen months earlier. As storm water accelerates through the inlet, their work pulls them from sonar records and zero-visibility dives into a fight over buried reports, political pressure, and the price of telling the truth. Set on the salt-marsh coast of New Jersey, Scour Depth is a contemporary workplace romance about technical courage, adult trust, and what it costs to close a bridge before it closes on everyone.

This record is not a current verification of the book’s rights. The scope above describes the recorded review; current book information may have changed.
Manuscripts and inventory fingerprints identify supporting files. Confirmation of the provider, work version, and documents establishing publishing rights is required before a current rights verification can be issued.
A file inventory identifies recorded materials; it does not establish ownership by itself. No fixed contractual expiration describes the agreement’s duration, subject to statutory copyright terms.
Supporting documents remain private. For a record check, correction or rights dispute, contact [email protected] and quote the record ID.

The tide was running out of Townsend Inlet like gray grease, pulling the sulfur stink of low-water cordgrass against the concrete bents of Pier 4.
At twenty minutes before six on Thursday morning, the sun was only a dull cadmium smear behind the barrier dunes of Avalon. The bridge deck overhead had not yet caught the full weight of holiday traffic, but delivery vans and gravel trucks were already hammering the expansion teeth every few minutes. Each crossing sent a hollow percussion down through the timber substructure into the salt water, vibrating through the aluminum gunwale of the survey skiff where Teresa Beltrán stood braced against the console.
"Kill the kicker, Milo," she said, without lifting her eyes from the dual-frequency display.
