When twelve-year-old Rowan's wheelchair basketball club loses its gym time to a glossy private-academy showcase, she decides there is only one way to save the team: play so well that nobody can ignore them. But every speed-first practice leaves someone behind, especially Sofia, the newest player, and puts Rowan on the wrong side of Mila, a teammate who sees the court differently. With the club's future shrinking by the day, Rowan has to stop chasing a perfect score and start building a better game. Her answer is the Unfinished Game, a community tournament with rotating captains, unexpected rules, and room for every kind of player to matter. Set in the heat of Phoenix, this funny, fast-moving sports story follows a stubborn captain as she learns that leadership is not about taking the final shot. It is about making sure the whole team has a chance to take one.

Rowan liked the gym best before anyone else arrived.
The air still held last night's cool from the air-conditioning, and the polished floor had not yet collected the squeaks, scuffs, and half-moons of tire rubber that made it theirs. Her chair made a soft, confident whisper as she crossed the center line. At the equipment cart, she checked each ball with the pressure gauge, then lined them up by size. One junior ball. Four regular balls. The orange practice ball with the seam Jett had repaired using tape that looked suspiciously like it had once belonged to a dinosaur notebook.
