Rowan liked the gym best before anyone else arrived.
The air still held last night's cool from the air-conditioning, and the polished floor had not yet collected the squeaks, scuffs, and half-moons of tire rubber that made it theirs. Her chair made a soft, confident whisper as she crossed the center line. At the equipment cart, she checked each ball with the pressure gauge, then lined them up by size. One junior ball. Four regular balls. The orange practice ball with the seam Jett had repaired using tape that looked suspiciously like it had once belonged to a dinosaur notebook.
