A House for the Living
When divorce mediator Lena Ward inherits a rain-worn Craftsman in Eugene, Oregon, she expects a final piece of paperwork from the life her former husband wrecked. Instead, Nora Bell's will leaves the house equally to Lena and Renata Vale, the woman who exposed Evan's fraud, with one binding condition: they must live there together for six months before either can sell.
The house needs a new roof, overdue taxes threaten a lien, and every practical decision brings old blame to the surface. Lena trusts procedures more than desire. Renata trusts bluntness more than forgiveness. As they repair windows, share bills, and confront the document Renata kept from Lena years ago, the house begins to offer a future neither woman expected to want.
But a trustee has a buyer waiting, and a clean sale would be easier than building something honest. To keep the house, Lena and Renata must decide whether care can have rules, whether truth can arrive late and still matter, and whether a shared life can be chosen without either woman disappearing inside it.

The Clause
The rain had darkened Nora Bell's porch boards to the color of brewed tea. Lena stood under the narrow awning with a cardboard file box pressed to her hip and watched water travel down the crooked gutter in a steady silver thread.
Inside, somebody had opened every blind in the front room, as if light could make the house less dead.
"Ms. Ward." Calder Wynn rose from Nora's small dining table. His suit was gray enough to disappear against the weather. "Thank you for coming."
