The Borrowed Badge Mystery
When the school kindness badge vanishes from its hook, ten-year-old hallway helper Anwar knows exactly who will get blamed first: the kid with the clipboard who was last assigned to check it.
With Friday's assembly getting closer, Anwar follows a trail of blue ribbon, torn labels, rolling carts, and a bent brass clasp through a busy public elementary school in St. Paul. His new partner, Tess, asks the questions his careful lists leave out. Together they discover that the badge may have traveled far beyond the classroom, through donation sorting, a neighborhood repair counter, and the crowded world of assembly props.
But finding the badge means more than proving Anwar innocent. Someone is hiding an embarrassing mistake, and the easiest answer could hurt the wrong people. To solve the mystery, Anwar must learn that fairness is not just about following rules. It is about seeing the whole route before deciding who belongs in the story.

The Blank Hook
Anwar liked the hallway before the first bell because it had rules.
Coats belonged on hooks. Boots belonged on the black rubber trays. The blue recycling bins waited under the windows with their mouths shut. Even the snow outside behaved better before school started. It lay in a clean white strip along the playground fence, not yet stamped into lumpy gray islands by a hundred boots.
