The Featherweight Engineers
When ten-year-old Celeste Reyes sees a warbler strike the glass wall of St. Louis's new Riverlight Conservatory, she tries to treat it as bad luck. She has a contest to win, a mechanical bird sculpture to finish, and a methodical rival named Theo who always has one more measurement than she does. But the more Celeste tests her shining wings, the clearer the problem becomes: reflections, lights, and her own beautiful design are confusing birds moving along the Mississippi flyway. With opening day closing in, Celeste, Theo, and their bird-smart friend Lina must turn a contest entry into something the whole conservatory can use. This warm, fast-moving middle-grade adventure follows a young maker as she learns that revision is not the end of imagination.
