The Proof of Purchase

By JIANGUO TANG· [email protected]

When a recalled countertop oven appears in the warranty system under the name of a woman who never owned it, consumer investigator Keisha Lane expects a simple data error. Instead, she finds a trail of false registrations, missing delivery records, staged repair photographs, and dangerous appliances sent back into Detroit homes.

With independent technician Darnell Velez and city fire-safety inspector Tasha Green, Keisha follows serial histories and warehouse tags through a discount retailer and a platform built to make liability disappear. The closer she gets to the truth, the more urgently the system tries to call the problem resolved.

To stop the next fire, Keisha must turn hidden records into public proof before the companies responsible can rewrite the trail.

This record is not a current verification of the book’s rights. The scope above describes the recorded review; current book information may have changed.

Manuscripts and inventory fingerprints identify supporting files. Confirmation of the provider, work version, and documents establishing publishing rights is required before a current rights verification can be issued.

A file inventory identifies recorded materials; it does not establish ownership by itself. No fixed contractual expiration describes the agreement’s duration, subject to statutory copyright terms.

Supporting documents remain private. For a record check, correction or rights dispute, contact [email protected] and quote the record ID.

The Wrong Name

The recall queue had a way of making every problem look smaller than it was.

Keisha Lane knew that was the point. The screen reduced a smoking kitchen, a frightened caller, a ruined breakfast, and whatever came after to a case number with a colored flag beside it. Red meant active danger. Yellow meant follow-up. Green meant somebody, somewhere, had typed enough words into enough boxes to make the responsibility move on.

Case 44-7182 had a red flag.
