When sound becomes evidence, the past has nowhere left to hide.
Elias Varga is hired to solve a technical problem at a restored Chicago concert hall, one night before its televised reopening. When a historic glass instrument shatters during rehearsal, the damage looks accidental until Elias recognizes a deliberate break pattern and a hidden theft.
Working with conductor Clara Winters, Elias follows resonance tests, fracture surfaces, and rehearsal recordings toward a suppressed woman composer whose manuscript has been concealed for decades. The final proof will not be a confession, but a performance.

Shattered Cue
The last clear note of the rehearsal did not belong to any instrument onstage. It came from somewhere above the orchestra, a thin, metallic tone that seemed to slide along the new plaster dome.
Then the glass instrument broke. The smallest bowl burst first, a bright ring leaping from it before two larger bowls cracked almost together. Musicians flinched backward, bows lifting from strings.
Clara Winters held both hands up. 'Nobody move,' she said. Elias took the booth stairs two at a time.
