The Borrowed Blueprint
A beautiful object can still carry a dangerous secret.
Industrial-design archivist Grace Mbeki discovers that a launch-ready Detroit prototype contains a copied safety feature from a rejected design. What first looks like a filing mistake leads through erased records, altered CAD histories, and machine wear patterns.
With safety engineer Malcolm Reed, Grace follows the evidence toward a recall plan prepared before the product has launched. The prototype was not simply stolen. It was engineered to fail at the right moment.

The Missing Radius
The archive lived below the museum, where the air was cooler and the light had no interest in flattery. Grace Mbeki preferred it that way.
She lifted a 2019 restraint-housing drawing from its folder. A red diagonal line crossed the page: REJECTED. DO NOT CARRY FORWARD.
On the screen, the current restraint housing rotated in pale blue wireframe. The model was stamped RELEASE CANDIDATE / VERIFIED. Grace enlarged the inner channel and saw a pattern where no one had asked her to look.
