A Door Left Open

Mara Vale came back to Baltimore to sell her late aunt's locksmith shop, pay the debts, and leave before the block could ask anything more of her. Then a black door appears in the rear brick wall.

It opens onto rooms that belong to living people: a kitchen held together by regret, a childhood hall where an apology has waited too long, a bedroom shaped by a father's mistake. Every time Mara crosses a threshold, she brings part of that unfinished pain back with her. The shop begins to reveal what her aunt knew about these doors, and what she did to keep the people she loved from walking away.

With a wary building inspector, a niece determined to sell, and a neighborhood that remembers more than it says, Mara must decide whether helping means holding on or letting go. A Door Left Open is an intimate supernatural family drama about grief, consent, and the cost of making yourself necessary. Before the doors make a keeper of her, Mara has to choose what she will finally release.
