When seventeen-year-old Elian finds a child she once escorted listed in a flood ledger beside a village that has vanished from every sanctioned map, she knows the discrepancy is not a clerical error. Assigned to a routine verification with Prince Tomas, Elian follows erased route markers, frightened toll clerks, and a trail of displaced families toward a treaty that promises prosperity. The closer they get to the truth, the clearer it becomes: the crown is not defending the border from violence. It is using maps, permits, and memory magic to clear whole communities from its future. With floodwater rising and the treaty ceremony days away, Elian must turn the kingdom's own route network into proof. But exposing the truth could cost Tomas his memories, endanger everyone who speaks, and force Elian to choose between saving the people closest to her and refusing a system built to sacrifice everyone else.
