At eight twelve, the call board was already red from one end to the other.
Nadège Bellamy stood behind the low divider of the supervisor pod with a headset pressed over one ear, watching three agents try to talk at once without looking as though they were trying. The room had no windows. Fluorescent panels buzzed above the rows of gray desks, and the vents carried the stale sweetness of the vending-machine coffee somebody had spilled near the printers.
