One Room for Winter
A chemical train derailment seals forty-three Minneapolis residents inside a basement laundry room built for twelve. Property manager Lena Vale has failing air scrubbers, a pressure-locked door, and no way to call for help.
When a hidden portable scrubber turns clean air into a ration, Lena's practical control collides with tenant organizer Elias Rook's demand for public decisions. Rumors spread, a duct begins to fail, and every battery, key, and floor space becomes evidence of who matters most.
With winter contamination outside and panic tightening inside, Lena must face the triage choice that drove her from paramedic work and risk the only private refuge she can see. One Room for Winter is a claustrophobic psychological survival thriller with an intimate, hard-won romance, where getting out depends on sharing power before time, air, trust, and human patience together finally run out.

The door locked before Lena got all forty-three names.
Its bolts drove home behind the laundry room wall with a sound too deep for a latch, a blunt metal answer that ran through the cinderblock and into the soles of her boots. Above it, the alarm panel kept flashing red.
