Benchwarmer Manifesto
When St. Jude High School cuts its student theater budget to fund an illegal showcase tour for its untouchable varsity basketball team, senior scorekeeper Dominic Moretti decides not to take it quietly. Armed with an indelible pencil and his grandfather’s vintage state athletic handbook, Dom realizes that the official scorer's table holds legal statutory power. By calling out unmeasured jersey numbers, coaching box violations, and hazardous baseline seating, Dom turns bureaucratic regulations into weapons of asymmetrical sabotage against head coach Carmine Vitale.
His solitary crusade spirals out of control when backup guard Chloe Kowalski discovers his scheme. When an anonymous report triggers an emergency state compliance audit, the freeze halts all athletic certifications—threatening Chloe’s only collegiate scholarship. Forced into an uneasy alliance, Dom and Chloe confront the institutional machinery of parish sports, risking expulsion and public disgrace to orchestrate an audacious procedural ambush during the televised Catholic League semifinals at the Palestra.

Rule 2, Section 1 (The Table Keeper's Signature)
The basement beneath the south gymnasium at St. Jude High School smelled like boiled laundry, damp coal dust, and sixty years of floor wax cured under steam pipes.
I sat on an overturned milk crate inside the athletic storage cage, dipping a wire brush into kerosene to strip grease off a brass tire-pressure gauge. Around me, four hundred deflated Spalding leather balls hung in rotting nylon mesh bags from the ceiling joists, sagging like cured hams in a butcher’s cellar. On the wooden workbench rested my official tools: two mechanical pencils with 0.9-millimeter lead, a roll of cloth friction tape, a bottle of rubber cement, and the heavy, cloth-bound binder stamped Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association: Official Basketball Scorebook.
