Priya knows every failing hinge, leaky pipe, and booking deadline at her grandmother's Finger Lakes rental house. She expects to spend the summer keeping guests happy and the mortgage afloat. Then she finds three letters in the attic, each promising the house to a different relative.

Within days, the family descends on the lake house with competing memories, unpaid resentments, and very different ideas about what survival looks like. As a polished local developer offers one cash-strapped cousin a private way out, Priya tries to keep the peace through cleaning schedules, repair lists, and silence.

But the house is running out of time. With help from a former rival who sees through her, Priya must decide whether protecting her family means smoothing over the truth or making everyone face it. A warm, tense contemporary YA story about summer work, complicated love, and what it costs to make a home fair.

Turnover

By ten on Sunday morning, I had stripped six beds, found three wet socks under furniture nobody had moved since 1998, and decided the people from Cleveland had been raised by ornamental towels.

The lake house always looked innocent after guests left. Sunlight lay across the floorboards. The porch screen held its shape from a distance. The water beyond the dock flashed silver-blue, like it had not spent the night slapping the pilings hard enough to wake me twice.

I carried a bag of laundry down the stairs with my phone tucked under my chin. “No, I wrote down the deposit,” I told the woman from the booking site. “It’s in the blue folder.”
