A Championship for Nobody
A loose screw, a flour-clogged wheel, and one crowded bakery counter can wreck Dev Bell's best plan. When his aunt's Vermont repair shop risks losing its rent cushion, Dev enters the Maple Junction Maker Championship. Its equipment grant could cover tools the shop needs and free precious repair money for rent.
Then the contest requires a team of three. Dev recruits exacting gardener Tessa Vale and quick-talking bakery helper Junie Pike to build a portable repair station for real people with real messes. But sponsor rules reward polish, a glossy rival machine owns the spotlight, and Dev keeps treating teammates like parts of his design.
With showcase day closing in, Dev must choose between a flashy invention he can claim alone and a tougher tool the whole team can stand behind. The next repair may decide what stays open next.

This record is not a current verification of the book’s rights. The scope above describes the recorded review; current book information may have changed.
Manuscripts and inventory fingerprints identify supporting files. Confirmation of the provider, work version, and documents establishing publishing rights is required before a current rights verification can be issued.
A file inventory identifies recorded materials; it does not establish ownership by itself. No fixed contractual expiration describes the agreement’s duration, subject to statutory copyright terms.
Supporting documents remain private. For a record check, correction or rights dispute, contact [email protected] and quote the record ID.

Loose Screws
The hand mixer made a noise like it had swallowed a pocketful of marbles.
Dev Bell held it above the scarred counter at Bell Repair and tipped his head. The beaters hung below the white plastic body, crooked as tired legs. Marta Bell stood on the customer side with flour on one cheek and both hands pressed into her apron.
"It did that yesterday," she said. "Then it made a smell."
